Sleep is one of the pillars of good health, and financial concerns should not stop you from getting the treatment you need for your sleep apnea. That is why our Weatherford, TX, practice is pleased to help patients utilize their medical insurance coverage for sleep apnea therapy. We can help you figure out how your benefits apply, file claims on your behalf, and more. Continue reading below to discover some details about how we may be able to serve you.

How Medical Insurance Works

Even though our practice focuses on dental sleep medicine, it is not actually your dental insurance that will help you pay for our services. Rather, you should turn to your medical insurance.

Every health plan comes with its own set of details, so you should take some time to familiarize yourself with the specifics of your benefits.

Your plan is likely to pay for at least a portion of the cost of:

  • Sleep apnea testing.
  • Conventional sleep apnea treatments, including oral appliance therapy. (Even though NightLase is an effective way to address sleep apnea, it has not yet gained widespread acceptance as a treatment that should be covered by insurance.)

You may need to get preauthorization to use your insurance for sleep apnea services. You might also be responsible for paying a deductible, as well as a copay and/or coinsurance.

Medical Insurance vs. Dental Insurance

Even though Dr. Romack is a dentist, dental insurance does not typically cover sleep apnea services. That is simply because dental insurance applies to treatments that directly benefit the well-being of the teeth and gums, such as checkups, cleanings, fillings, and more. Sleep apnea is more of a systemic health problem. Therefore, it is often covered by medical plans.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Coverage

If a practice is in-network with your medical plan, it means they have a contract that controls prices and encourages a specific level of care. However, that does not necessarily mean that you must go to an in-network practice. If you have PPO health insurance, you may be able to use it virtually anywhere in the U.S. and still get to enjoy robust benefits.

Our team can take a look at your policy and help you understand your financial obligation, regardless of whether we are in your plan’s network.
